little sister

Happy Birthday Ali!

Ali is the middle sister but 9 years younger than I. That was a big gap and I was so excited to finally have a sibling, especially a sister. Back in those days our relationship consisted of me dressing her up, babysitting for her, teaching her little songs or watching her suck her thumb.

Years have a way of closing that gap and changing relationships. Now I look to her for recipes, advice, a listening ear, and laugh with her at the littlest things or family stories that we've told for years.  Rather than play Hands Down with her we can shop or go out for a glass of wine together. I am so thankful to have her in my life and that she stopped sucking her thumb years ago!

Have a wonderful day and year to follow!

H A P P Y   W E E K E N D!

We are wrapping up a wonderful much-needed Spring Break week of relaxation, progress on the pool, spring cleaning, long walks, sunshine, shopping, basketball, rain, a girls lunch & day together, sleet, and working on products for Vintage Market Days (2 months away!!!)

We will be cheering on KU tonight (picked them winning it all on our brackets- fingers crossed!) before we drive North to Kansas City for a baby shower on Saturday and head back home to spend Palm Sunday together as a family and for our Sunday Soiree- March Madness theme!

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

Happy Spring!

Outside it sure doesn't feel like the first day of spring. A morning walk was very brisk with winds from the north whipping us in the face, but there are signs of warmer days outside and in. I've tried to dewinterize my house and bring in some spring color....

We've been working in the studio on new items for weddings and Vintage Market Days http://www.vintagemarketdays.com/urban-style/
Colors of the season everywhere!

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold:
when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.

3 years

Three years ago on Saturday we celebrated the beautiful wedding of Megan and Brandon in Sarasota, Florida. Sarasota is a special place to our family, where we spent many family vacations with our family of four as well as my mom's family. It was one of Grandma Jane's most favorite places and now it holds even more special memories for our family with the celebration of Meg and Brandon.

The day was perfect. It started with a wonderful bridal brunch with friends and loved ones at The Ritz with the sun shining and warm temperatures. My mom, Meg and I then drove into St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota to get the most thorough mani/pedi that we have ever gotten :) then onto make-up. My grandpa spent some time with the 3 of us driving us around from place to place as well as picking up the cupcakes for the reception. It was a special time of the day- talking about past memories in Sarasota and being so excited for the evening! When we got back to the Ritz to meet the bridesmaids in our room to get our hair done and dressed, the wind was starting to pick up and the temperature was slowly dropping. The afternoon was wonderful- getting all pretty and taking pictures out on the terrace of the Ritz before driving to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Then Meg and Brandon GOT MARRIED and were now Mr. and Mrs. Maddux! It was an answered prayer- to see them vow their love to one another for the rest of their lives. Then it was time to PARTY! Once we all got back to the Ritz it was windy and COLD... we took some pictures out on the beach and enjoyed a wedding cocktail before we decided to move the reception inside where a big celebration and dance party went down until it was time for the newlyweds to drive away! It was a beautiful day that will always be looked back with such wonderful memories!

Happy 3 Years Meg and Brandon!!

inspired by spring

You know its coming, a day of 70+ degree weather but then it dips back into the 40s the next day...spring is in the air and signs of it are everywhere. Besides the signals nature gives us its refreshing to see spring colors and patterns everywhere else too. Just a few things that have us longing for longer days, spring rains, warm sunshine and a switch from boots, coats and mittens to sandals, bright colors, shorter sleeves and entertaining outdoors....
